According to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the total volume of containers handled through 120 ports in the region rose by 1.3% in calendar 2014 to around 47mn TEUs. The increase followed gains of 5.8% in 1.7% in 2013, 5.8% in 2012 and 13.8% in 2011. San Antonio and Valparaiso were respectively the 12^th and 14^th busiest ports by this measure, handling about 1.1mn and 1.0mn TEU in 2014.
