In its report ‘Globalisation and Competition: The New World of Cities’, Jones Lang LaSalle assessed a number of New World Cities. These are rich and globally connected cities with populations of 1-8mn and metropolitan economies of US$100-400bn or so. JLL looked at the ranking of 20 of these cities in terms of seven widely used indices for each of: investor friendliness, innovation, talent, liveability, brand numbers of conferences and numbers of visitors. Of the 20 cities considered, Montreal was in 4th place overall, with an average 9% percentile position across five of the indices.
