In its recently published report, China’s Cities, Savills noted that retail sales in Chongqing in 2013 amounted to about CNY500bn and, by that measure, was the fourth largest metropolitan retail market in the country. Disposable income among urban households was approximately CNY25,000 per annum. GDP per capita was CNY42,000. In 2011, there were around 220mn domestic tourism arrivals and about 2mn international tourism arrivals.
