ULI: Dresden faces density challenges and opportunities of a shrinking/consolidating city.

A research paper by the Urban Land Institute (ULI), ‘The Density Dividend: solutions for growing and shrinking cities’, explains how six major European cities can solve strategic challenges by managing population density. Dresden is seen a shrinking/consolidating city: its major challenge is to redevelop particular areas in order to boost liveliness – or risk being seen as a ghost town. Its current density profile is described as medium overall. However, there are under-used areas of the inner city which could cope with a significant increase in population density.
