In its recently published report, China’s Cities, Savills noted that retail sales in Shenzhen in 2013 amounted to about CNY440bn and, by that measure, was the sixth largest metropolitan retail market in the country. Disposable income among urban households was approximately CNY45,000 per annum (and higher than in any other major city). GDP per capita was almost CNY140,000. In 2011, there were around 25mn domestic tourism arrivals and about 12mn international tourism arrivals (including arrivals from/through Hong Kong).
