In its research paper, ‘The Density Dividend: solutions for growing and shrinking cities’, the Urban Land Institute (ULI) argues that the main reason why Stockholm should increase its population density is to meet housing demand and to maintain affordability. The city also needs to achieve scale and to protect its substantial green spaces. The main challenges include the cultural desire for private space and the lack of private rental property.
