USA: Low-income housing debate could cause some ‘heartburn’

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A controversial $32 million low-income housing project could take a significant step forward Wednesday after a public hearing and vote by members of the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission, despite opposition by Lafayette's mayor, city council and board of works.
During a 6 p.m. meeting, APC members will decide whether or not to grant an Indianapolis-based developer preliminary approval to build 248 apartments in 17 buildings on Elston Road northeast of the U.S. 231 overpass.
